Keep on Looping: Where it Started

Back in 2016, after moving back to the USA from Germany, my family and I opened a small online Waldorf homeschool supply store — in my parents’ basement, no less!

Waldorf education is full of handwork and traditional fiber arts, so our shop was stocked with everything from wool for felting to embroidery… and of course, potholder looms.

Sorting Loops

But we did something a little different. Instead of only selling big bags of mixed loops, we started bundling each color individually in small quantities. That meant dumping the loops on the floor, and as a family, sorting and counting colors by hand. (Yes, even the kids pitched in!) Those little bundles are still part of our website today, even though the process looks a lot different now.

It turned out people loved the idea — and demand only grew during COVID, when so many rediscovered potholder weaving as adults. Crafting became an outlet for self-care, stress relief, and connection.

That’s when I knew we needed something bigger and better to serve our community. Instead of shipping 100 different custom loop bundles each week, I started creating one beautiful, themed box with coordinated colors and patterns, and mailing it to everyone. That was the very first Keep On Looping subscription box.

It was a win-win: members got seasonal colors, curated patterns, and a monthly dose of creativity, while we could pack more efficiently and pour our energy into building a community. Before long, it grew into what it is today — happy mail that sparks joy, creativity, and nostalgia every month.
