What is potholder weaving?
Potholder weaving is a simple over-under weaving craft made using colorful cotton loops and a loom. It’s relaxing, beginner-friendly, and fun for all ages.
Is potholder weaving hard to learn?
Not at all! Most beginners are surprised how quickly they can make their first potholder. Once you learn the basic weaving pattern, it becomes easy and relaxing.
What do I need to start potholder weaving?
To get started, you’ll need:
- a metal loom
- cotton loops
- a hook for finishing
Our Model 27 and Model 19 Loom Kits include everything needed to make your first potholder.
What loom should beginners start with?
Both of our looms are beginner-friendly, so it really depends on what you’d like to make!
Our Model 19 - 7" Loom is a great place to start if you’re looking for a smaller, classic potholder and a quick, approachable first project.
Our Model 27 – 10" Loom creates larger potholders and gives you more room for detailed patterns and creative possibilities.
For younger children or anyone who prefers a smaller project, we recommend starting with the 7".
If you’re excited about exploring more patterns, colors, and designs, you may want to jump right into the 10".
What size loops do I need?
Loop size needs to match your loom.
Our 7" loops are designed for the Model 19 – 7" Loom, while our 10" loops are designed for the Model 27 – 10" Loom.
The two sizes are not interchangeable, so be sure to choose the loops that match your loom size.
How do you weave a potholder?
Potholders are woven by stretching cotton loops across a loom and weaving additional loops over and under to create colorful woven designs.
